MetroWest is a cluster of cities and towns lying west of Boston and east of Worcester, in the US state of Massachusetts. The name was coined in the 1980s by a local newspaper. While regional definitions vary, the MetroWest Visitors Bureau defines the area as including the towns of Ashland, Bellingham, Framingham, Franklin, Holliston, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Medway, Milford, Millis, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland and Westborough. The MetroWest Channel includes many of the abutting towns to this map. MetroWest is known as a world leader in research and development that offers well-preserved history and unspoiled sanctuaries. But don’t be fooled. Not only is it a gateway to The City of Boston and all it’s culture, but MetroWest also offers some of the country’s great dining and shopping destinations.
Greater Boston is the area of Massachusetts surrounding the city of Boston. Due to ambiguity in usage, the size of the area referred to can be anywhere between that of the metropolitan statistical area (MSA) of Boston and that of the city's combined statistical area (CSA) which includes the metro areas of Providence, Rhode Island and Worcester, Massachusetts.
The MetroBoston Channel covers the areas of Massachusetts surrounding the city of Boston. It is usually reserved to signify the "inner core" surrounding the City of Boston, while "Greater Boston" will usually (at least) overlap the North and South Shores, as well as MetroWest and the Merrimack Valley. It can often include the metro areas of Providence, Rhode Island and Worcester, Massachusetts.
Both Metro and Greater Boston has many sites and people significant to American history and culture, particularly the American Revolution, civil rights, literature, and politics, and is one of the nation's centers of education, finance, industry, and tourism, with the sixth-largest Gross metropolitan product in the country and 12th-largest in the world. One of the greatest known areas in the world for Business, Technology, Arts, Sports, Culture, Dining, Education, Travel and so much more. The areas surrounding Boston are truly the “Foundation to The City”, worth a visit even for a day!!
